"Beer is proof that G-d loves us and wants us to be Happy"

Aah Ben Franklin, you got it so right.

I'm watching Anthony Bourdain inhale pork and beer right now while he's in Prague and it's only fitting that I write about this restaurant with the similar menu. Just from Belgium. And It's Daniel Boulud's restaurant.

299 Bowery (btwn 1st adn Houston)

Aaah greatness. I've actually been here before for a work lunch. Mr. Broad hates when I say that. He gets Panera and I get well, homemade sausages. Tough life.

This place usually has a wait but lucky for us, Mr. Broad made a reservation. DBGB is known for it's beer list. It's extensive matching a Harry Potter book length (the first one, NOT the fourth one.)
And if you're not careful you may order a $50 GLASS OF BEER?! Thanks to Mr. Broad for aptly stopping the waiter before he fulfilled my order. (It was sweet and tasted like berries!! With aromatic senses! Who saw the price?!)

We started with the "salad" because we wanted to be like healthy.
Iceberg and Blue- tomato, walnuts, bacon bits & herbs

What's up best salad I've ever had.
I know, let's not all get into the merits of iceberg lettuce (Does it have any nutritional value??)
Something about the herbs really made this take on a wedge salad completely shine.

We also shared a sausage. Because you really, really HAVE to. Mind you, they ain't cheap. Apparently $12-15 and some are just ONE link. We went with one of Mr. Broad's favorite type's of sausages.

Boudin Basque - spicy blood and pigs head sausage with scallion mashed potatoes
Yeah it's called blood sausages because well. It's kind of the main ingredient. After the meat and all.
Aaah blood sausage how I love thee. In a thick large slice that was somewhat intimidating we had at it.

BURGERS...
Here's where the whole "You are what you eat" phrase kept creeping through my head. Similar to the sausages, Mr. Boulud has a thing for burgers here. Not cheap burgers, but damn good burgers. And they include fries! So that totally makes up for it, right??
I copied straight from the menu because I didn't want to mess these up...

THE PIGGIE
6 oz beef patty topped with daisy mays bbq pulled pork jalapeno mayonnaise & boston lettuce on a cheddar-cornbread bun with mustard-vinegar slaw, fries
phew

THE FRENCHIE
6 oz beef patty with confit pork belly arugula, tomato-onion compote & morbier cheese on a peppered brioche bun with cornichon, mustard & fries

And a much better angle

This burger sits proud.

And the bucket of fries.

Mr. Broad and I split them down the middle and we both tossed up on our favorites. The BBQ really overshined the burger of the Piggie (not that it was a bad thing!!) and the Frenchie... well ooh lala! The fries were just good ol' Belgium twice fried. (Btw, am I the only one that thinks McDonalds should change up their fries like Dominoes changed up their pizza recipe?? Or Burger King? I mean if you're going to have it your way you may as well have 'em Belgium style).

Review:
A mighty good restaurant, however not cheap. Great beer, great style and probably better to go in bigger groups... to try more sausages of course. Oh and the dessert. I mean we would have tried the dessert but we were full on ... iceberg lettuce.

My Mr. B. is so jealous. He hearts Daniel Boulud with a passion and we have yet to go to any of his restaurants. My mouth is watering and we're green with envy!
